***DISCLAIMER: I know that using this shampoo is not equivalent to bathing in rat poison. I am sure my mother probably used J&J on me and I’m okay (for now.) I just have a huge problem with companies marketing products to moms for their babies that contain potentially harmful ingredients in them, pretending that they are soooo pure and natural, when other safer alternatives are available. I also have a problem with companies who have different formulations of their products based on the location in which they are sold. Just make it safer for all babies everywhere. Period.
“Why are babies in the U.S., Canada, Australia, China and Indonesia being exposed to carcinogens in Johnson’s Baby Shampoo when safer alternatives are available in other countries?
After finding chemicals linked to cancer in popular kids’ bath products – including Johnson’s Baby Shampoo – in 2009, we asked Johnson & Johnson to reformulate its iconic baby shampoo and specifically to remove the formaldehyde-releasing chemical quaternium-15.
Fast-forward to now. Not only is the company still exposing babies in the U.S. and other countries to formaldehyde (a known carcinogen), the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics recently discovered that J&J is selling versions of the shampoo in Denmark, Finland, Japan, the Netherlands, Norway, South Africa, Sweden and the U.K. that DON’T contain formaldehyde-releasing chemicals. Read our report, Baby’s Tub Is Still Toxic, for details. In fact, in response to our report, J&J released a statement saying it is no longer introducing new products with formaldehyde-releasing preservatives and it’s phasing out these types of preservatives in baby products worldwide. This is great news, but it doesn’t mean products on store shelves today are safe.
We know J&J can do better. Every baby – regardless of where she or he lives – should be protected from unnecessary exposure to carcinogens. If you agree, send your own letter to J&J…” HERE.
