I love IKEA…they have some really affordable, cute and safe items which my home is no stranger to. For example, look at this super cute and modern children’s chair. I rushed right over to check it out for DS.
However, they caused my heart to sink by conforming to the stupid California Technical Bulletin 117.
Ever notice those tags? Ever read those tags? Do you know what they mean?
How many toddlers do you know who regularly light up? I know my child doesn’t regularly chill by an OPEN FLAME.
This is good to know IKEA, because you know, now I won’t be buying your toxic product for my child. California’s flammability standard puts children at risk. And I live in Georgia. Go figure.

I’ve also heard that there is speculation that the fire retardant all over crib mattresses and baby clothing might contribute to sids? This is definitely not good stuff.
No kidding. We only use sleepwear that hasn’t been chemically treated (to my knowledge) and look for the label that says: “Wear snug-fitting, not flame-resistant.” As far as crib mattresses, we decided on this one by Naturepedic: http://www.naturepedic.com/products/mattresses/classic_organic_crib_mattress.php
